Image Description.
A warm, painterly illustration of a peaceful mushroom village set deep in a forest clearing. In the centre stands a tall, anthropomorphic mushroom character with a large, rounded dark brown cap and a solemn, thoughtful expression. This character represents Portobello. His arms are clasped gently in front of him, and his body has the texture of a mushroom stalk — pale beige with slight grooves.
Behind him to the right is a quaint mushroom-shaped house with a thick, rounded cap forming the roof and a wooden door with a small square window above it. Several smaller anthropomorphic mushrooms move about the village in the background and midground, each with caps of varying shades of brown. One stands to the far right with a sad expression, possibly a child. The forest around them is lush and green, with tall trees arching overhead and soft shadows cast across the mossy ground. The overall tone is gentle, earthy, and quietly emotional — evoking a sense of community and reflective calm.
Portobello
Pronouns: He/Him
Tribe: Mountain Portobello
Role: Second in command and scout
About: Portobello is Shiitake’s loyal second-in-command, known for his quiet strength and sharp eyes. With a broad, dark cap and a cloak the colour of misty stone, he often takes the lead when the path ahead is uncertain. He’s the scout, the strategist, and the one you want beside you when navigating rocky ground.
He speaks sparingly but with purpose, and often finishes Shiitake’s thoughts with a simple nod or a single word. The two have a deep understanding built over many journeys together. Where Shiitake connects to the forest’s heart, Portobello listens to its edges — the rustle of danger, the shift of wind, the movement of things unseen.
While he may appear stern, Portobello has a dry wit and a deep affection for his fellow Mushroom Men. He is fiercely protective of Button and keeps a wary but amused eye on Boogie and Groove. Beneath his stoic exterior is a mushroom who has seen a lot — and who never stops watching.
Notable Moments:
* Helped navigate the treacherous cliffs during the events of Shadows Over Misilania.
* Was the first to notice the memory anomalies in When the Soil Forgot and quietly tracked their spread.
* Often the one to scout ahead and return with vital clues or warnings.
Quote: ”I don’t speak much. But when the mountain moves, you’ll know I’ve already seen it coming.”
